Lesson 1

Past Simple & Past Continuous

Use the past simple for completed actions. Use the past continuous for actions that were happening at a specific time in the past. Together, they help you tell stories naturally.

Explanation

Past simple: I visited my friend yesterday. She bought a ticket.

Real Conversation

A: What happened yesterday?
B: I was walking to the supermarket when I saw an old friend.
A: Really? What did you do?
B: We talked for ten minutes, then we went for coffee.

Paragraph Practice

Write 4–5 sentences about something that happened yesterday. Use at least one past simple sentence and one past continuous sentence.

Use comparatives to compare two people, places, or things. Use superlatives to show the highest or lowest in a group.
